Availing of Health Insurance Plan During Pregnancy

Can You Obtain Health Insurance During Pregnancy?

All mothers out there can probably relate that carrying a child is no joke. Other than the physical pain they endure for nine whole months, there is still the financial matter to take care of. So how can a pregnant woman who’s not working avail of a health coverage? Actually, there are a few types of medical assistance pregnant women can get through the government as well as the private insurance providers.

According to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, insurance providers should not consider pregnancy as a pre-existing exclusion for the health insurance. This applies especially to women who are switching to new jobs or new health plans. This law also prevents the employers’ group health plans from imposing a pre-existing exclusion for new staff who are pregnant.

Going back to the available health plans, one option would be Medicaid. This is a federal funded program for low income women and families that can provide health coverage for women who are currently pregnant.

Another existing health program is Maternity Advantage. This is a discounted health program that helps individuals and families to save health care costs up to 60%. This program is offered by a National Provider Maternity Network which covers doctor visits, lab work, sonograms, hospitalization fee, etc.

AmeriPlan is another type of discounted program which enables the individuals and families to get 50% discount on the cost for hospital stays, lab work, physician services and other types of ancillary services.

With all the plans stated above, we hope that we have lessened the worries pregnant women put up with and enjoy the benefits offered by these health insurances.
